“I Am” Awakened Humanity! Common’s Inspiring Acceptance Speech at the Golden Globes (Video)
Talented rapper-performer Common gave a moving speech after he and John Legend won Best Original Score for their song “Glory,” from the movie “Selma” about Martin Luther King, Jr.
Hello Sacred Bombshell,
I didn’t watch the Golden Globes this year, but I did follow the fashion coverage along with the most inspirational moments on social media. George Clooney’s moment with his wife was amazing and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler rocked it as usual.
Common’s speech was incredibly moving. This was the standout moment for me.
Here we go:
“The first day I stepped on the set of Selma, I began to feel this was bigger than a movie. As I got to know the people of the civil rights movement, I realized, I am the hopeful black woman who was denied her right to vote.
“I am the caring white supporter killed on the front lines of freedom. I am the unarmed black kid who maybe needed a hand but instead was given a bullet. I am the two fallen police officers murdered in the line of duty.
“Selma has awakened my humanity, and I thank you Ava [DuVernay].
You are a superhero. You use the art to elevate us all — to bring us together.”
